JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Tom Coughlins much-maligned defence has a chance to look considerably better Sunday. The Giants (3-8) play at Jacksonville (1-10), which is averaging an NFL-low 14.6 points and managed just a field goal in a lopsided loss at Indianapolis last week. It appears to be a favourable matchup for the Giants, who will try to end a six-game losing streak.Coughlin has preached to his team about finishing games, which was the primary problem in losses to Seattle, San Francisco and Dallas the last three weeks.Thats about the story of the season, Coughlin said. The Giants were tied at 17 heading into the fourth quarter at Seattle three weeks ago before losing by 21. Trailing 16-10 late in the fourth against San Francisco the following week, New York had first-and-goal at the 4-yard line before Eli Manning threw an interception.Last weeks loss to Dallas may have been the worst of the bunch. The Giants scored to take a 28-24 with three minutes remaining, but then surrendered an 80-yard touchdown drive that dealt Coughlin his second six-game losing streak in as many seasons. So closing out games has become a trend and a concern.Definitely; I think that is obvious, Giants linebacker Jameel McClain said. We havent completed a game, and finishing is the most important part in football. The cliché statement is Its not how you start, its how you finish. It is really the most important part we have been missing out on.The defence has been the biggest culprit, giving up nearly 400 yards a game and recording just 19 sacks. The unit could enjoy a turnaround against Jacksonville, which has lost four in a row by double digits.Rookie Blake Bortles continues to struggle. He leads the league with 15 interceptions and looks less comfortable in the pocket than he did in his first start two months ago.Granted, Bortles is playing behind a shaky line that includes two rookies and two second-year pros. And hes without leading receiver Allen Robinson, who is out for the season with a foot injury. But the third overall pick has shown little, if any, progress since taking over the starting job in Week 4.You cant replicate games, Bortles said. There are mistakes happening, but its kind of going into the memory bank of, I cant do that again. I can do that here or I can do that there. I think every game is a huge learning experience. Some things to know about the Giants and Jaguars heading into Sundays game:COUGHLIN COMES HOME: Coughlin has a home near Jacksonville, holds his annual charity golf tournament here, and plans to move back when he retires. He has plenty of friends in the area and still has numerous ties to the expansion franchise he built into a Super Bowl contender in the 1990s. Hes 1-0 on the opposing sideline, winning his first return trip in 2010.Its always special, he said. To get there, to come to the stadium, to see many faces that have been friends for a long time, to stand on the sideline, those are all things that are very emotional. My whole family will be there.JENNINGS RETURNS: Coughlin wont be the only one feeling nostalgic Sunday. Running back Rashad Jennings spent the first four years of his career in Jacksonville and is excited to come back where I started, my beginnings. Jennings has 507 yards rushing and two touchdowns this season, but no bitter feelings about Jacksonville not re-signing him. I have nothing but great things (to say) about the organization for believing in me and giving me a chance, he said. I dont have a chip on my shoulder for the organization.MONTH AWAY: The Jaguars are playing at home for the first time in five weeks. Jacksonville last played at EverBank Field on Oct. 26, a 27-13 loss to Miami. Since then, coach Gus Bradleys team has faced Cincinnati on the road, played Dallas in London and followed a bye week with a trip to Indianapolis.BECKHAMS ENCORE: Giants receiver Odell Beckham Jr. got Jacksonvilles attention — as well as just about everyone everywhere — with his one-handed catch last week. The first-round draft pick finished with 10 catches for 146 yards and two touchdowns. Hes playing at a high level, Bradley said. His athleticism, his route-running, the ability to accelerate and get out of his breaks.RISING SACKS: One thing the Jaguars have done well this season is sack quarterbacks. They rank third in the NFL with 33 sacks, including five last week against the Colts. New York has yielded 24.___Online:AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL Abry Jones Jersey .J. -- The New Jersey Devils are so bad in shootouts, coach Pete DeBoer doesnt mind seeing his team take chances in the five-minute overtime. Dante Fowler Jr Jersey .J. -- The NHL reduced its penalty against the New Jersey Devils on Thursday for signing Ilya Kovalchuk in 2010. http://www.authenticjaguarslockroom.com ... te-Jersey/. Just ask Arsenal fans. However, Arsene Wenger has repeatedly told anyone willing to listen that finishing in that spot is more important than winning a cup competition. Justin Blackmon Jersey . A person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press the Steelers will part ways with the former Pro Bowler, a move that hardly serves as a surprise after fifth-year linebacker Jason Worilds agreed to accept a "transition player" tag last week. Myles Jack Jersey .Hoffenheim forward Anthony Modeste opened the scoring on a counterattack in the 15th minute, shooting though Jaroslav Drobnys legs after Lewis Holtby lost the ball in midfield.EDMONTON -- Going on their longest road trip of the year hasnt slowed the Chicago Blackhawks down one bit. Andrew Shaw had a pair of goals and Patrick Kane scored on the power play to extend his point scoring streak to 11 games as the Blackhawks defeated the Edmonton Oilers 5-1 on Monday. After starting the trip with a disappointing 5-1 loss in Colorado, Shaw said the Hawks have regained their form. "Weve got back to our systems and rolling all four lines," he said. "Everybody is bringing the energy we need them to and the chemistry through all four lines is pretty amazing right now. Weve been playing some of our best hockey. "Weve had a couple of injuries to key people, but everybody is stepping up. Thats why our game has improved." Jonathan Toews and Johnny Oduya also scored as the Blackhawks (17-4-4) won their third game in a row in their fourth match of their seven-game road trip. Chicago has gone 11-2-1 in its last 14 games. The Blackhawks moved ahead of Anaheim and into first place in the NHL with the victory. Chicago goalie Corey Crawford made 24 saves to collect his 16th win of the season. "We are just taking it game by game and trying not to look too far ahead," he said. "We are a very focused team right now. Playing in a building where we havent had much success of late, it was nice to come in here and get off on the right foot and get a couple of goals early." In the 2011-12 season, the Blackhawks lost 9-2 and 8-4 in Edmonton. Chicago head coach Joel Quenneville said the key was getting two early goals and putting the Oilers on their heels. "We had a great start in the game," said Quenneville. "We get that short-handed goal and we have a red-hot power play that got us off on the right foot. Getting off to that start was important. The special teams in the first period really put us in a good spot. Across the board, we did what we were looking to do and played a really solid game. Justin Schultz replied for the Oilers (7-16-2), who saw a season-high three-game winning streak come to an end. "It was a crazy game to me a little bit," said Oilers head coach Dallas Eakins. "It wasnt a 5-1 game, I thought it was probably a 3-1 game. But giving up that shorty early, where we bobbled the puck, cost us. Then we couldnt kill that penalty and when youre down 2-0 to the defending Stanley Cup champions, its usually going to be trouble right away." Oilers forward David Perron said his team just seemed flat. "They pretty much beat us in every aspect tonight," he said. "I felt like the energy was pretty low for having three days off. Its a disappointing game for us wanting to make a statement. "We have to find an answer in here. I feel like we should have had better energy after three days off like that." Chicago got on the board five minutes into the first period with a short-handed goal as the Oilers Nail Yakupov couldnt corral a bouncing puck at the blue-line, allowing Toews to take off on a breakaway.dddddddddddd. The Blackhawks captain waited for Edmonton starter Devan Dubnyk to commit before scoring his 12th goal of the season. Chicago made it 2-0 three minutes later on the power play as Edmontons defenders failed to clear a puck in the crease, allowing Kane to swoop in and score into a wide-open net with Dubnyk down and out of the play. The goal extended Kanes league-high point scoring streak to 11 games. He has six goals and nine assists during that span. The Oilers best chance came with four minutes left in the first period as Ryan Smyth got off a point-blank shot from the side of the net, but Crawford came across for a big pad save. Chicago went up by three goals a minute-and-a-half into the second period as an Oduya shot bounced off the glove of Edmonton defenceman Corey Potter and into his own net. The rout was on as the Blackhawks made it 4-0 six minutes into the middle period on a three-on-one as Jeremy Morin made a backhand pass to Shaw who had a ton of net to deposit the puck into. That goal spelled the end of the night for Dubnyk and set the stage for the debut of Ilya Bryzgalov. The veteran goalie, who signed a free agent deal with Edmonton on Nov. 8, hadnt played an NHL game since becoming a compliance buyout of the Philadelphia Flyers in June with seven years remaining on his nine-year, US$51 million contract. The move seemed to spark the Oilers, as they finally got a goal past Crawford eight minutes into the second as Schultz snuck in from the point and unleashed a bullet from near the face-off dot to make it 4-1. Shaw hoped he had his second of the night on a late third period power play, but the goal was immediately waved off as he had clearly kicked it into the net. With two minutes remaining, however, Shaw did get another goal as he tipped a Nick Leddy shot past Bryzgalov for his seventh of the season. Bryzgalov made 12 saves on 13 shots in his return to an NHL net. The Blackhawks play the fifth game of their seven-game road trip in Calgary on Wednesday, their annual trip that coincides with the circus hitting Chicago. The Oilers start a three-game road trip in Nashville on Thursday. Notes: It was the second of three meetings between the two teams this season. The Blackhawks won the first match-up 5-4 in Chicago on Nov. 10 on the strength of a three-goal third perioda Oilers goalie Devan Dubnyk was named the NHLs third star of the week on Monday after only allowing one goal in a pair of wins over Columbus and Floridaa Chicago winger Marian Hossa missed the game to attend to a family matter, while fellow forward Bryan Bickell missed his third straight game with a lower-body injury. There was some good news for the Hawks, however, as centre Michal Handzus played his first game since Oct. 24, returning from a hand injurya The oft-injured Oilers are actually remarkable healthy at the moment, with non-starting forwards Tyler Pitlick and Ryan Hamilton and third-string goalie Richard Bachman on the shelf.
